The Colt Model 1861 Navy .36-caliber revolver is a six-shot, single-action percussion weapon produced by Colt Manufacturing Co. from 1861 until 1873. It incorporated the "creeping" or ratchet loading lever and round barrel of the .44-caliber 1860 Army model but had a barrel one half inch shorter, at 8 inches. Total production was 38,000 revolvers.

Essentially a streamlined version of the Model 1851 Navy, the six-shot, .36 caliber Colt M1861 Navy was manufactured from 1861 through to circa 1873 in a serial range from 1 through to approximately 38843 (and roughly 28,000 by the end of the war. Nearly 40,000 were produced between 1861 and 1873, but only a few hundred were purchased by the Federal government for both Army and Navy use.
